The examination of authorial and literary quality increasingly operates via economic factors such as saleability and market value. Judgements are made by a few market strategists, in some cases trained economists whose literary qualifications are questionable at the very least.
The project www.literaturboerse.com focuses on the roles of "artist" and "market strategist", which have been repeatedly parallelised for some years, attempting to demonstrate the actual interfaces. The project illuminates the phenomenon of "authorship as management" (Felix Philipp Ingold) and discusses the interference of the much-praised market in the domain of literature. Instead of securities, the literature exchange trades literary texts. Authors can submit texts on the web site at www.literaturboerse.com. All kinds of texts are allowed: prose, poetry, dramatic, experimental mixed forms.
A jury will select a limited number for trading. Texts can be traded as of 31 May 2001.
In the concluding symposium, culture, literature and business experts will reflect on the processes, the winning texts will be presented and the most successful investors will explain their strategies.
